Accessing your Apache Web Server with Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX

This feature is only available as part of eSuite4X - Web Developer's Edition and Enterprise Edition.

Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX supports WebDAV to upload files and manage your site. The steps below describe how to set up Dreamweaver MX to access your new web site.

Step 1: Create a new Site

Start Macromedia's Dreamweaver and create a new Site for your web project. If you want to upload an existing site open the Site Definition via "Site" -> "Edit Sites..." and continue with Step 2.

To create a new site with Dreamweaver select "New Site..." from the "Site" menu. Enter at least your "Site Name" and your "Local Root Folder" where your want to store a copy of the web pages while editing.

Enter the address of the system running the eSuite4X in the field "HTTP Address". You can either enter the IP address (like "http://127.0.0.1/" if you are using Dreamweaver on the same system) or your official address (you can look this up in the System Preferences -> Sharing) or a DNS name. A DNS name is usually assigned by your network administrator if your system is directly connected to the Internet.

Leave the dialog on screen and continue with Step 2.

Step 2: Configuring "Remote Info"

Select "Remote Info" from the Category list. Now choose "WebDAV" from the "Access" selection and click on "Settings...".

URL

Enter the address from step 1 followed by :81, for instance "http://127.0.0.1:81/"

User / Password

eSuite4X includes pre-configured users to make the first setup more easy. You can enter the username "internal" with the password "davConnect76" directly after installation, but you should change the password for this user as soon as possible.

You can create your own users and change passwords with the eSuite4X WebServices Control Center by selecting the Apache service, Authenticate by clicking on the lock and clicking on "Configure".

Email

Enter your Email address. Your Email address is used by the WebDAV module to show other users who is currently editing a document.

Step 3: Configuring your "Testing Server"

Select "Testing Server" from the Category list and enter the following values:

Server Model

Choose "PHP MySQL"

Access

Choose "WebDAV"

URL Prefix

Enter the same address as in Step 1

Access to your new web site is now configured and you can create and upload pages with Dreamweaver MX.
