Configuring WebDAV - User Management

This feature is only available as part of eSuite4X - Web Developer's Edition and Enterprise Edition.

WebDAV (also known as Web Folders) provide a convenient way to access and modify your web sites documents. We have included and pre-configured WebDAV with eSuite4X to make it as easy as possible to create your own web site.

WebDAV is supported by all major web authoring tools. We have included a detailed description on how to access your Web Folder with several common applications in this manual (Dreamweaver MX, GoLive, Mac OS X Finder, Goliath).

Access privileges to your Web Folder are maintained through a special user database. This user database is only used for WebDAV access to your Web Folder and is completely separated from the MySQL user database and the Mac OS X user database.

Create and modify WebDAV users/passwords to access your Web Folder

Load the eSuite4X Service Control panel

Open Mac OS X System Preferences and click on "eSuite4X" in the Others section

Open the "Services" tab and select "Apache Web Server" from the service list. Now click the Config-button to open the WebDAV User Manager.

WebDAV User Manager

Click the "New User..." button to create a new WebDAV user or select a user from the user list and click "Edit User..." to modify the user password or access privileges.

Enter a name and password of your choice for the new user and select the Access Level.

Available Access Levels:

No Access   To user is actually part of the user database, but cannot be used until the access level is changed to any other value. This is to temprarily disable users.

User   The user has the right to read and download any file, but certain administrative tasks are not allowed.

Administrator   The user is allowed to issue every command.

Click "Add User" to create the new user entry in the WebDAV user database.

Restart Apache to reload the user database

Apache does not automatically reload the user database. You have to go back to the service list and stop and restart Apache. Only a restart forces Apache to reload the WebDAV user database.
